He has designs from GraphicRiver to Dribbble, pushes pixels at the speed of light, and never misses an occasion to prove his design skills. This week we meet Nechita Paul Flavius (NechitaPaulFlavius) from GraphicRiver.

Meet Paul

I’ve noticed Paul's progress over the past few years, and decided to meet him face-to-face. A simple interview turned into three awesome meetings. The first was a 30-minute chat while weaving through traffic—which was more relaxing for me (the driver) than for Paul. I asked him about how he discovered the Envato Marketplaces.

I was born in a small city in Romania, with little chance of building a career for myself. So after I finished high-school, I moved to another city to get my bachelor's degree in Graphics.

This still didn't feel right, so once again I packed my bags and moved to our lovely capital city, Bucharest. I continued my studies to get a major in Graphics, got a really great job, and experienced life as I always wanted and expected it to be.

Envato has been a challenge. I came with little to no experience as a designer, and ended up learning more things than I could have imagined.

I love the community, and the way people interact. I love the fact that I made some friends here, and of course the opportunity to sell my designs.

Envato has had only positive effects on me, though from time to time I get frustrated about things—like why did this get rejected, and why am I not selling more items.

But eventually I got to understand that it takes time to get something done. It takes time to get better, and that's what it's all about—getting better at what you do.

Paul’s Thoughts on the Envato Community

Our next meeting was in a café around one of the nicest parks in Bucharest. We joked, and discussed topics ranging from design, work ethic, professional experience, and the Envato community.

I love the information that’s posted on the forums, the ability to get feedback for free from people who have the same skills as you do, and most of all, meeting great and talented people who share the same vision as you do, that motivates you to grow.

Nothing is perfect—from time to time some promotions annoy me. I love the way the birthday celebrations work, when everyone gets a 70% commission rate, and the ones that already have reached that rate get some candy! That's something that involves all of us.

One-on-One Meetups

This is the first of hopefully many one-on-one meetings with our community members—if you'd like to have a chat with me, drop me a line! I asked Paul about his thoughts on the meetup.

This is a great idea. It takes the whole interview experience to another level.

I had another interview posted a while ago, and I feel much more comfortable speaking to you than simply filling in a form. I felt intrigued by our conversation, and it’s something that I'd like to see more and more.

Thanks for the opportunity. I hope we can do this again real soon.
