Goodlayers Surpasses $2 Million in Sales

Goodlayers-notes

Less than a year ago, we celebrated GoodLayers Day in honor of their reaching a huge one million dollars in sales. Today we announce that they’re reached a new milestone: two million dollars worth of sales! 2013 has been a good year for them.

We caught up with the Goodlayers team (profile, website), and asked them what they’ve been working on, for some words of wisdom for other authors, and how it feels to be the third author to reach this level of succes.

What have you been doing since you reached one million dollars in sales?

We are still providing the same support as we had done from the start, keeping the same level of dedication to keep our customers happy. In addition, we have been paying special attention to the design/implementation of new themes.

These days, the quality of themes available is getting higher and higher, with many new authors popping up every day. Many of their ideas are super awesome!

We are not planning on sitting still or doing the same thing over and over. We want to keep pushing forward and improving our products. It's the only way to survive in this tough competition.

Without giving away your secret to success, can you tell us a little about the design process at Goodlayers?

The first step is choosing a focus for an upcoming theme. It can be anything – restaurant, travelling, church, photography, whatever looks interesting or pragmatic. Then we do online research for necessary features.

After that, we start designing. It's very important to put the unique components together in a way that suits the chosen category. All design steps will be done in PSD format.

Then we shift to the implementation process using our existing framework. Mostly, the design process should take about 7-10 days, and about two weeks for implementation.

How does it feel to be the third author to hit the two million dollar milestone?

It's truly amazing. To be honest, after hitting the one million dollar milestone, we haven't thought about the two million dollar milestone at all. Things just got going very fast.

I think it took us about 8-9 months after one million milestone. Yeah, it's still hard to believe.

Are you working on anything cool or different now?

Yep, right now we're creating our new framework. We're aiming for new and better page builder, with more optimal and efficient coding, and more options.

We’ve learned for previous problems. We made a note of the requirements on the old themes (framework), and are trying to make this one as perfect as possible.

If you bought some of our themes and have any new ideas or suggestions for our framework, please do not hesitate to tell us on our Facebook page. We'll add it to the list.

How has your success affected you?

We are still working as hard as ever. Maybe even harder. But now we’re already successful, we can't just keep doing the same thing based on our previous success.

Sometimes, being successful in the past can make you lazy, thinking that what you've been doing is perfect. No! If you keep standing still, other people are going to whiz past you, especially in this kind of business.

Yes, to become successful is hard, but to keep it that way is harder. The most important part is that you must always improve yourself. Keep learning new things, open your mind to everyone's opinions, and you can keep ahead of the line.

Do you have any words of wisdom for all the other aspiring authors out there?

  • Never stop learning. You have to learn at least as fast as the world changes. The designs, coding, system and all other things change every day. If you stop learning, you'll not just stay still—you'll move backwards.
  • The customer is the king. We try our best to keep a good relationship with our customers. Do not neglect them when they have any questions. They sometimes know what everyone needs better than we do. Listen to their complaints—they can help you improve your work.
  • Most importantly, do what you love. For most people, your working hours will consume most of your day. Doing what you love can make those hours really enjoyable, and the outcome can be astonishing. It's always super fascinating to see our ideas being put into something tangible, and you can't imagine our feeling of pride and happiness in ourselves and our products when we receive a good review. This is actually the real reason we choose this work at the moment, though other factors are also enticing.
