Famous Files: 10 Marketplace Items Given the Star Treatment Posted: 27 Jan 2014 04:55 PM PST “And the winner is…” While the Academy Awards don’t yet have a category for “Best Envato Marketplaces Item”, we do hear stories of how items have been used in blockbuster movies and widespread advertising campaigns. Let’s take a moment to recognise and congratulate those authors. Here are 10 Marketplace items that have been given the star treatment. 1. VideoHive’s News 10 Pack Used in the Feature Film “Olympus Has Fallen”
Imagine VideoHive author 333pix‘s delight as he was watching the feature film “Olympus Has Fallen” (2013), and realised they were using one of his templates, News 10 Pack. He describes the discovery on the forums:
Did you identify any other VideoHive items in the movie? Let us know in the comments.
2. VideoHive’s Military Drone Used in “The Numbers Station” Yarche‘s VideoHive item Military Drone (UAV) Seeking Enemies was used in the opening credits of the action thriller “The Numbers Station” (2013). Community member Michaelfagan noticed this while watching the movie, and (according to the forums), wrote this note to Yarche:
3. VideoHive’s Broadcast Design Appeared at the Cannes Film Festival
VideoHive author and buyer andrenavarre grabbed IronykDesign‘s Broadcast Design template to help get the film “Dichotomous” released on time. It went on to be accepted into the Cannes Film Festival last year. Amazing! You can learn more of Andre’s experience in this forum thread. I love IronykDesign’s response:
4. AudioJungle Track Used in Short Film “Everest”
Another author to receive good news is Dean Sumic, who was informed that one of his tracks was used in "Everest – A time lapse," a short film produced by award-winning adventure filmmaker Elia Saikaly. The video became very popular, and has been featured on many popular sites such as Vimeo, Washington Post, and Huffington Post, and was covered by CBS News. The track, “A Heartbeat Away” by SoundPlex, provides fitting background music for the amazing scenery in the video, though it’s no longer available on AudioJungle.
5. AudioJungle’s Pure Light of Inspiration Used in an Aerial Video Journey
When NotAdrone put his New England Aerial Video Journey together, he turned to AudioJungle for music for the backing track. He chose Pure Light of Inspiration by LumenMedia, a techno piano track with an inspiring “technology” theme.
6. VideoHive’s Teen Girlfriends Used in a US Television Advertisement Days Inn (a big chain in the US) used some stock footage from VideoHive in a recent commercial. The item used is Teen Girlfriends by Pressmaster. The ad aired on national US television for two weeks beginning 11 November 2013. I haven’t been able to track the clip down on YouTube or elsewhere. If you find it, please let us know in the comments.
7. AudioJungle Tracks Used in Short Film about New Zealand’s North Island
Andrey Mishchenko (AndrVlad on VideoHive) took some awesome footage of New Zealand’s North Island when on vacation last year. He speaks about many of the details of the shoot in this forum thread. He used music from several talented AudioJungle authors in the clip (as well as some tracks from outside)—11 music compositions in total, licensed from seven authors. How many do you recognise?
8. AudioJungle’s Epic Evolution Featured on CNN
Petr Hejl creates some awesome aerial videos, including this one of the demolition of a 200 foot wind turbine tower, a story was picked up by CNN. For background music, he chose a track from AudioJungle: Epic Evolution by MusicPremium.
9. VideoHive’s Satellite Over Earth Used in “Arena” Another action thriller to use a VideoHive item is “Arena” (2011). Yarche‘s Satellite over Earth is used as stock footage in the movie. Yarche has a request:
10. Watermarked AudioJungle Track Used by Christina Aguilera
Cyan Ta'eed’s voice has been featured on a Christina Aguilera production. It’s true! That’s because when they made the TV spot for her new perfume, Unforgettable, they used an AudioJungle track—complete with watermark. One of the first things you hear in the clip is Cyan whispering “AudioJungle”. How do you feel about this? You can read the the story behind AudioJungle’s watermark on Inside.Envato. Do you recognise the track? Let us know in the comments. Congratulations! When authors hear of their items being used in these ways, they see it as good news. In fact, I imagine they jump out of their chairs, cheer, and give the nearest person a high five! It’s exciting to see your hard work being used in the real world. We offer the authors mentioned in this article our hearty congratulations! But sometimes that point is debated. Is Hollywood getting too good a deal? This concern is felt most sharply when a watermarked item is used, without a sale even being made. How would you feel if your item was given the star treatment? Would you celebrate, or feel concerned? Let us know in the comments. Header image credit: jgroup |
