The Story Behind AudioJungle’s Most Romantic Track Ever Posted: 12 Feb 2014 05:05 PM PST What do you get when you combine an Italian composer, a wedding, and a romantic music track? The beginnings of an inspiring Valentine’s Day post. Add in a honeymoon in Australia, some didgeridoo playing, and a connection with AudioJungle, and we have a story with a real Envato flavour. It’s worth reading.
Sounds like the beginning of a story! With Valentine’s Day coming up, we decided to catch up with Matteo to see how things have progressed. Well, they have! In a nutshell, he recently played that same track at a wedding as his girlfriend walked down the aisle… and she said “I do.” Here are the details.
Yes, the track was actually titled “Aspettando le Stelle”. In Italian it sounds like “Waiting for the Stars”. I wrote it when Costanza and I were still dating, without anything “official”. We went together to see the shooting stars on the 10th of August in the countryside near our town. “Nothing” really happened that night beside some nice talk… Over the next few days I was really inspired to write some music, and I came up with the initial guitar riff. Harmony and music flowed naturally. I finished the track in a couple of days and send her an MP3 via email. She really liked it, and sent me an text message asking to date me again… And she actually became my girlfriend just some days later! All this happened in 2009. For months I was composing music inspired by our feelings for one another. Some of these songs were later uploaded to AudioJungle. Here’s some examples:
I re-recorded the original “Waiting for the Stars” some years later because I wasn’t satisfied with the overall production. I produced a mini-CD with five tracks that was given as a gift to my friends for Christmas. “Waiting for the Stars” and the other songs were later uploaded to AudioJungle. Initially I tried to maintain the original titles because I liked them, and they were linked to a particular moments in my life. But I realized later that the songs weren’t being found or purchased. So I tried to rename them with more appealing titles that still referred to love, and came up with "I Will Give All My Love". That, I feel, is really appropriate to the whole story!
When we were arranging our wedding last year, we naturally came up with the idea of playing some of my music instead of the “usual” wedding music. We ended up in playing two of my songs, “Waiting for the Stars” and “Romantic Love Piano Music”, both arranged for the church organ. I wrote a simplified version of the track for the organist. He used my score as the starting point for his arrangement. It was really emotional for both of us to listen to my music played in the church right after we exchanged the rings. Here you can listen to the a piece of the MP3 recorded in the church. Unfortunately something went wrong, and I don’t have the whole performance. But I think it’s a nice arrangement. You can also see in the photo above my simplified score for “Romantic Love Piano Music”, that was originally titled “In Viaggio”. I wrote it when we were on holidays in China in 2010 for our first anniversary (of becoming girlfriend/boyfriend). Sorry, but I don’t have the MP3 for this. The guests liked the music a lot, and I must say the organ player did an awesome job playing my music!
I planned to use a Zoom H4n recorder to record the whole organ performance, but you may know that just before the wedding there are really a lot of things to do, and you are a bit anxious… so I completely forgot about the recording! I was lucky that some of the guests were recording video, but not of the whole ceremony. Unfortunately no one recorded the performance of “Waiting for the Stars”. As a side note, we went to Australia for our honeymoon (a really awesome trip!), where I bought a didgeridoo in Alice Springs. I travel a lot both for work and as a tourist, and I collect musical instruments from all around the world. I have a sitar from India, Chinese violin, flutes and harp, a Turkish Saz, a Fujarka from Slovakia, a dan bao from Vietnam, and many many more! So how could leave the didgeridoo in Australia? I’m learning to play it, and plan to use it in some of my future music, maybe doing something more experimental. This is my first “official” try with it: A huge thank you to Matteo and his wife for letting us tell their story. I’m sure it will inspire romantic feelings in everyone who reads it. Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! |
